Mission Statement
Our mission is to create an inclusive and welcoming community where musicians of all backgrounds can continue their passion for music, grow as performers, and build meaningful friendships. Through engaging rehearsals, inspiring performances, and a shared love of concert band music, we aim to enrich the UBC community while making music accessible to everyone.
The Beginning
Our Story
The UBC Vancouver Concert Band was founded by a group of students who recognized that many musicians wanted to continue playing after high school but lacked an accessible opportunity to do so at UBC. While many students arrived on campus with years of band experience, they often found themselves setting their instruments aside due to limited opportunities or scheduling constraints.
Building a Community Through Music
Wanting to change that, our founders (Catherine and Lilias) set out to create an ensemble that was welcoming, student-driven, and focused on community as much as musical excellence. Their vision was simple: build a place where musicians could continue doing what they love, regardless of their faculty, skill level, or how long it had been since they last played.
Growing Together
Today, the UBC Vancouver Concert Band continues to grow as a vibrant community of musicians united by a shared passion for music. Every rehearsal, performance, and event reflects our commitment to creating an environment where everyone feels welcome, supported, and inspired to make music together.
