Can't Make It?

Can't make it to weekly rehearsals but still want to perform with us? Here's your chance! 

​

If you're unable to regularly attend Tuesday rehearsals, you may still be able to perform with the band through independent practice, provided you have access to your own instrument. There are also other ways to participate, like our vocal ensemble and jazz combos! In addition, there are also opportunities for solo/duets/small group performances at our concerts!

Instruments Needed!

All instruments and skill-levels welcome, but below are the instruments that we are currently looking for. If you can play any of them (or any instrument at all!), please consider joining us!

  • Bass (Electric or Upright)

  • Trombone

  • Clarinet

  • Tuba

  • French Horn

Why Our Members Joined!

Nick Cao: "I joined the band because I was in concert band during elementary and high school, so I naturally gravitated towards that sort of environment even after I graduated. The biggest appeal for me is just the sense of community I get from being apart of a group that is all collaborating and working towards the same goal."

Sierra Ismond: "I was interested in joining the band because I wanted to keep up with it after high school! Being in the group really helps you make connections from outside classes which is nice!"

Harper Dai: "I wanted to join because I want to continue to play drum kit/snare, and also I love completing a piece with the ensemble for that sense of accomplishment and musical experience. It allowed me to meet more friends who enjoys music and made concert band experience part of my first year memory."

Meet Our Founders!

Catherine Du: Catherine is a fifth-year student majoring in Natural Resources Conservation in the Faculty of Forestry and Environmental Stewardship. Having previously auditioned multiple times for the UBC School of Music ensembles, she decided to take matters into her own hands and start this ensemble so all people, regardless of their skill level can join.

Lilias Edwards: Lilias is a first-year student in the Faculty of Science, hoping to major in Biochemistry. She founded the band to create a space where everyone felt comfortable playing together, no matter their level. She also wanted to continue playing the oboe past high school and share music with the community!
